Figure 1 below shows the approximate boundaries of the Study Corridor originally considered for the Portsmouth Bypass. This Study Corridor is approximately 1-2 miles wide and sixteen miles long. Since the actual width that would be required for a new highway is only 250-450 feet wide, this area is large enough to allow for the development of several alternatives - each option attempting to avoid and minimize impacts to properties and environmental resources. This Study Corridor was developed with input from state and federal environmental agencies and local property information.

The shaded area on Figure 2 below indicates the area that is still under study. The "bands" shown are 1,200 feet wide or more, which is much wider than the 400-ft right of way that is typically required. Therefore, not all properties inside this area will ultimately be affected by one of the options. Properties outside of this area are less likely to be affected, although this will not be finalized until all the designs of the alternatives are finished.

Figure 3 below is a simple key map of the Study Corridor. The map is divided into 26 different logical sections along the Study Corridor Boundary outlined in blue as indicated on the legend. Furthermore, each section provides property line information and the name of the owner(s) relative to each parcel.

Figure 4 below is a simple key map of the Study Corridor displaying the Hill & Valley Alignments. The map is divided into 10 different logical sections along the Study Corridor Boundary. The Hill Alignment is shown in light green and the Valley Aligment in light pink.

The map is divided into 25 different logical sections along the Study Corridor Boundary outlined in pink (VALLEY OPTION) and orange (HILL OPTION) as indicated on the legend. Furthermore, each section provides property line information and the name of the owner(s) relative to each parcel.
